Change of pace

So I'm thinking the birds are done.....gonna set it aside for awhile and come back later.

Av and I spent the day with Cezanne at the Philadelphia Art Museum, you really should see this exhibit, so I thought to myself........watercolor what could it hurt. A bit more to finish but here it is so far.

Sorry for the poor picture but I kinda worked into the dark hours.....

We hate drawing water!

Well the water is in there, I'm not sure if it is done yet but I am sure that it is boring at this point so......got the sidewalk in position and it is time to get the pavement in place. I am toying with the idea of adding a discarded metro card in the vicinity of the water and doing it it watercolor......NYC cards are bright yellow with blue lettering and a mag strip on the front.

Birds are done....now water

Well finally got to work on the water.......but all the birds are in place and I am thinking about where/if the curbstones should be placed.

Latest progress on the Spa later today

The last bather is in the house!

Well here is the next installment. It is interesting how the scale and proportion is changing as it develops. Still procrastinating about the water....but I guess that is what the sketch book is for

Progress on the Spa

Holidays are over drawing time is precious and progress slow but if there is any better way to relax than to sit down with a pen I have yet to find it

So three of the "bathers" are in the house. One more to go then figuring out the water.

So here are some studies that will I will work with to, finally, get going on the great pigeon project :)

So in the middle of sketching pigeons for the Spa at Manhattan Mall, a friend asked me to do "something" for her theater company to use as a logo for cards, posters, and web.

Back to the pigeon thing.

Spa at Manhattan Mall

Av, my wife the photographer, and I were leaving Penn Station on a rainy morning recently heading towards Broadway on 33rd near the Manhattan Mall when she stopped short and cursed not having her camera. In the road over a backed up storm drain between two cars, she pointed out 3 or 4 pigeons having a grand time taking a bath in the middle of traffic.

Her loss is my inspiration, so off we go over the next few weeks to study pigeons doing pigeon stuff at the 'Spa at Manhattan Mall'

I thought I would start by posting an image of my most recent work.

Most mornings for the past couple of years I have been on an AMTRAK train to NYC and just past the Secaucus station you cross a large wetland, that I am told, used to be NYC garbage dump.

Now it is overgrown and home to a wide variety of waterbirds and on cold mornings you can see the Herons nestled down waiting for the morning sun to warm them.
